FORT WORTH
- Leave it to a couple of Texas high school
football powers to inspire the best homemade Internet sites in the state.
The Odessa Permian Panthers and Marcus
Marauders might not rank way up there in this season's state polls, but
they're Nos. 1-2 when it comes to spawning the best fan-produced football
sites.
MojoLand: Land of the Legend,
authored and maintained by Odessa-based graphic design company KylGrafX,
has the killer site among the scores of Texas high school football sites.
Since its launch in April, MojoLand has drawn 1,140,000
visitors in just one year.
"When people talk about Texas high school football, they
know about Mojo [the school's name for its tradition]," said Terry Alan,
MojoLand Webmaster and Permian graduate.
Alan's idea of MojoLand
goes beyond Permian's black-and-white school colors. Enhanced graphics and
attention to detail make MojoLand one of the
most dazzling sites around.
But it's not all eye candy. MojoLand
also dazzles with rich content, including a team roster and schedule,
player profiles, school history, records, maps, audio clips, a chat room,
sections of the cheerleaders, band and booster clubs and a pictorial of
past Permian greats. Visitors can also sign up for a bi-weekly email
update of Permian football news.
"I just have to make sure the Web
site stays as good as the team," Alan said. "There's a certain level of
tradition that has to be maintained -- even on the Internet."
The
Marcus Football Booster Club Page (www.gomarauders), launched in June and
maintained by booster-club member Tony Colunga, also has a big-time look.
It has dynamic images and the kind of content one would expect from an NFL
team. It's hard to believe it's a high school site.
The site
includes game photos, team information, statistics, news links, a fan
column, discussion forum and an online merchandise
section.
