HELLO PLAYOFFS!!!
February 13
For the first time since the 1997-98 season,
Mojo Basketball is back in the Class 5A
playoffs! Permian knocked off the
Abilene Eagles 61-52 to secure the post-season
spot. Permian trailed 16-7 after the
first quarter Tuesday, but rallied with solid
second and third quarters. Nathan Thomas
scored 16 points and backup point guard
Cameron Phillips had four 3-pointers and 14
points for the game. Chance Smith had
nine rebounds for Permian. The Panthers
now face North Crowley, ranked #2 in the

playoffs on February 19 in the Clyde high

MIDLAND
HIGH at PERMIAN
February 8
Midland High
survived a visit to the PHS Fieldhouse and
handed Mojo a 63-51 loss. One of the biggest
contributing factors came from 23 Panther
turnovers and 11 missed free throws. The
Panthers trailed 8-12 at the end of the first
quarter and 19-26 at the intermission.
By the end of the third, the Bulldogs led 39-30.
Permian had a chance to turn the momentum with 1:34 remaining.
Still trailing 55-47, Eric Clark had an open
breakaway at mid-court. Instead of
nailing a sure lay-up, Clark went for a slam dunk
and ricocheted the ball back to the top of the
key. Rather than
narrowing the margin to six, Midland converted
the turnover back to a nine point lead.
A bright spot was Chance Smith and Diontae Alford
played solid and helped keep
the Panthers in the game.

ABILENE COOPER at PERMIAN
February 1
Mojo basketball is starting to gel right here
at the end of the district games, with the
playoffs looming. The Panthers displayed
a very focused team effort in the 62-43
disposal of the Cougars. Hats off to
Coach Danny Wright in the preparation for the
game. The Permian effort provided good ball
movement and shot selection on offense. The
performance was definitely at a higher level.
Defensively, the Panthers poured on plenty of
back court pressure and forced several Cooper
turnovers. They started strong.... and
finished strong. Mojo played Cooper even
through the first quarter, and trailed by
three at the break. PHS exploded to take a 12
point lead by 3rd quarter's end. Melvis Pride
seemed to play with an extra fire and caused
havoc for the Cougars all night. This is
one win down, with two more to go.

MIDLAND LEE at PERMIAN
January 25
Evident of the absence of Eric Clark and
Diontae Alford, the Panthers failed to stop
the undefeated Rebels in a 74-40 lopsided
affair. Permian didn't really find their
groove until the last five minutes of the
game - where ball movement, better percentage
shots, and denying the Rebel offensive attacks
were marked signs of positives.
Lee led by a 39-12 margin at the intermission
and 60-25 after three quarters. Mojo is
tied with Odessa High for the last playoff
spot and will need to step up this coming
week. The Panthers travel to San Angelo
on Tuesday and will be at home in a must-win
game with Abilene Cooper.

PERMIAN at ODESSA HIGH
January 22
After a 30-30 halftime tie, too much
showboating and not enough team-play cost the
Panthers a 58-43 loss. Eric Clark was
held to eight points and seven rebounds.
With Clark shut down, Permian tried to do too
much individually and got away from the team
play that has helped them win games recently.
Tyrone Moorer came off the bench to score
seven points for Permian.

decision. Permian forced 27 turnovers
but struggled offensively to shoot the ball.
Melvis Pride started out hot, hitting a

single-handedly put Permian in a position to
win in the third quarter, making a layup to
tie the game at 30-30. He then hit a jumper
