LEE DEFENSE SLASHES AMARILLO HIGH

AUGUST 24, 2002
Lubbock
, TX -- During a quarter played under game conditions, Midland Lee's defense slashed the Amarillo High Sandies.  The offense produced a pair of lengthy scoring drives as the Rebels provided more evidence that this season should be more than a rebuilding project at Lubbock Estacado.

During the course of the scrimmage, Lee totaled five touchdowns to AHS' three. However, when the coaches were moved to the sidelines and the pressure of game conditions was added, Lee dominated.  Lee's first-team out-gained AHS, 361 yards to 202.  During the quarter, Lee's advantage was 156-51.  During Amarillo's first 12-play set, Lee forced one interception, three fumbles and allowed negative three yards. During Amarillo's second set, the Sandies connected on two plays of 50-or-more yards, including a 70-yard scoring run and a 50-yard pass and catch.  Fortunes again changed during the live quarter. Lee's defense held AHS to 51 yards on 14 plays and recorded a fourth-down stop with the ball on the Rebels' 34.  The Rebels play next Saturday's season opener against Arlington High.
