PERMIAN
AT LUBBOCK HIGH
The non-district season began in
Lubbock's Lowrey Field. The
Mojo defense set the tone from the
opening kickoff, causing the
Westerners to go three-and-out and
punting the ball away. The
Panthers drew immediate blood on the
first possession by methodically
moving the ball down the field and
punching the ball in from the 1-yard
line. Quarterback Taylor Byrd
took a quarterback sneak behind
center Jason Jones into the end zone
for their first of three scores in
the first quarter. The
Panthers added another three scores
in the second quarter, expanding the
score to 41-0. The Westerners
got on the scoreboard as the half
drew near on a 72-yard swing pass.
The Mojo defense limited Lubbock
High to only four first downs in the
half. The
second half was highlighted by the
Mojo defense, which returned a
fumble and caused a safety.
Byrd and Jamison Berryhill each scored
twice, plus Byrd added a touchdown
pass. Great showing by
offense, defense, and special teams.
