EAGLES CAPTURE
CROWN WITH 37-27 WIN OVER COUGARS
GAMES STATS
Abilene High took its first lead early
in the second quarter. After forcing a Cougar punt, a 10-play,
80-yard drive culminated in a Brandon Williams touchdown run from 1
yard out. CHS responded when Hunter Dunn came up with his
second touchdown catch of the game - a 43-yarder on a deep pass from
Zach Stewart to tie the contest at 14. The two teams retired
to the locker rooms tied at 21-21.
The Eagles were able
to slow down the fast pace of first half with an effective running
game. All 36 of their plays after the break were runs, and
quarterback Spens Lackey, running backs Keithy Flye and Brandon
Williams and receiver Bryson Walker all finished with more than 60
yards on the ground. Flye led the way with 153 yards on 21
carries and added a touchdown. Stewart finished 16-of-32 for
254 yards passing but was only 6-of-17 in the second half for 86
yards. The loss for the Cougars drops them to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in
the district, but they would make the playoffs with a home victory
over Midland Lee and an AHS win over Odessa High next Friday.
PANTHERS BLOW-OUT
BRONCHOS IN 46-14 VICTORY
GAMES STATS
Entering the annual event, a Panther victory would - end a two
year Broncho win streak, increase the overall meeting to an
impressive 41-6-1 mark, and allow the Mojo back into the playoffs
(which they have been absent since 1998). For Permian it was
mission accomplished.
The Bronchos fumbled
the opening kickoff and watched Permian’s Matt Lawson scamper into
the end zone just nine seconds into the game. The Panthers
intercepted the OHS pass on the next possession at their own 27 and
made their way to paydirt for an early 14-0 lead. Melvis Pride
took a 30-yard pass into the end zone, still in the first quarter.
Cameron Phillips intercepted his second pass and returned it 8 yards
for a touchdown, followed by a Robert Murry TD catch from 29 yards
out. Permian led 33-0 at halftime.
In the second half,
OHS quarterback David Camacho rushed 29 times for 118 yards and
scored the Bronchos first points of the game. He also
completed eight of 19 passes for 141 yards and two interceptions.
Byron Monahan scored the second Odessa High touchdown on a 1-yard
run. Bront Bird caught five passes for 99 yards and one
touchdown, with Melvis Pride catching four passes for 94 yards and
two touchdowns.
BULLDOGS STILL
ALIVE IN 37-21 DEFEAT OF REBELS
GAMES STATS
The Bulldogs
jumped on the Rebels in the first half and never looked back for a
38-21 win in the Twin City Classic. Lee drew first blood when
Jason Nash hit Amiuel Carr for an 11-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0
lead. The Bulldogs answered back on their next possession, as
Brandon Batch broke a 79 yard run to the Lee 1-yard line. Farris
Strambler went over on the next play to tie it 7-7. Batch got
into the end zone again late in the first quarter on a 14-yard run
to give the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead. The Dawgs would extend their
lead to 28-7 at the intermission. Batch finished with 200 yards on
27 carries for two touchdowns. The win puts Midland in position to
claim one of the two remaining playoff spots. |
